Well, once again it’s been quite a while since an update, several things have happened and changed etc, so, shall we make a start getting through it all?.
I eventually got my funds to make the trip, I purchased a different sim card than I had previously for a different US Carrier, this one should be more suited for me for calling back home too without huge costs, infact a very low cost, so the proof will be in the testing once I get there on if it’s any good, if not, no harm done, I can always get a different setup while there if required.
The phone I had thougth about changing the OS release to a US one and attempting to see if I would be able to make it more suitable for use over there, but this may not work, so I will go with limited functionality and pick up a more suitable phone for the Carrier I will be using.
Anyway, besides that with the funds, I ordered my USD money and my travel card so I won’t be carrying around too much cash and I can always add more money to this card if I need to, so hopefully I won’t go short while there, I also booked my flight, coach to and from airport(I have transport at the destination so this is already sorted), Travel Issurance just in case, afterall, i’m going for just over a month, so would be safer to have myself covered.
I also got the ESTA all set and approved ready for my travel, also purchased a suitcase as I only had a small-ish carry-on, need a little more space than this, I do need to get hold of a rucksack too as the carry-on will go under the coach, I would rather a couple items not go under there, it might also have to go for gate-check at one of the connecting flights being a smaller aircraft, however it’s a short flight and I will get it straight from the plane upon arrival so it won’t get too far from me.
So, everything is ALL set ready for my travel, now just 6 weeks to go then i’m off on my travels, going to be interesting…
Working Friday, Saturday and Sunday all night, coming home money morning, sleeping, then last minute checks, grab something to eat and relax for a bit before getting a taxi to the coach stop where it will depart a 10:45pm and arrive at heathrow at 5:30am, my flight doesn’t depart until 9:20am.
The trip is a total of nearly 17 hours there(from heathrow), landing in LAX, there for like 3 hours and 20 minutes, then on to my destination, but that’s only an hour n a half flight, my return it via Chicago and is a bit under 13 hours, then the coach home soon after landing(if things work out well and not delayed too much).
Long hours just for traveling and I won’t sleep if I can help it, will at least be able to watch movies etc on the way there, however not on the way back, the plane I will return to the UK on, has no power outlets, no on-demand unless premium and only some have the personal entertainment device option.
32 Hours awake to get there, maybe more, depending on when I wake, not quite so much on return and the day after I get home, it’s back to work, no rest for the wicked as they say.
