The weird and wonderful adventures

Linux + themes fun

Time for an update of sorts, so last few nights, been playing with Linux in a VM and trying to get themes working, seems I must not understand most of it, since they show screen shots of the look etc, however when actually set they look nothing alike and different colours etc, I guess I got a lot of learning to do.

I have tried many themes, on the screenshots they would show on taskbar just using icons like say Windows 10 for example, but in practise it just changes them slightly and still has the text on it, I also don’t see how to set the colours shown in the themes, some themes are in 3 separate parts so I wouldn’t know how to use these, only just worked out how to get the basic theme in place and activated.

It does seem, I am a lot more out of practise than I thought when it comes to Linux and very rusty on how to do things, I have not fully setup a Linux desktop in years, nor have I set any themes since before I used Linux as my primary desktop.

I was using the method of local theme use only copying the theme to ~/.local/share/plasma/desktoptheme then going to Settings > System Settings > Workspace Theme > Desktop Theme. From here there is the list of available themes to select from.

The setup I was trying to set this all up with was OpenSUSE 13.2 with Plasma 5 in a VM as stated.

Themes Tested – Antu, Freeze, OCD, Peruvian Lighthouse(which was meant to be a light purple theme and slightly transparent, wasn’t even close to purple), Velours.
All of which are available at KDE Look.

If I manage to figure this all out, I shall post updates stating how I worked it out.
